Our January Club Ride began after breakfast at the IHOP near I-45 and Beltway 8. The weather was perfect—warm and dry. Today's route would take us along four superb roads, winding through forests and hills. To get there we headed up I-45, then turned west on FM 1488. That brought us to our first target: Honea-Egypt Road. This curvy road served as an easy warmup for what was to come.
FM 2854 and SH 105 delivered us the town of Montgomery and our first stop. Our second target began there: FM 149, the Montgomery Trace. This beautiful ride took us into the Sam Houston National Forest, winding through the trees and emerging into rolling hills.
A jog north at Anderson too us to our third target: FM 3090, the highway department's gift to motorcyclists. This technical road winds through rolling hills and farmland until it reaches SH 6 just outside Navasota. We stopped in Navasota for a brief rest, recounting the roads we'd just ridden.
Southeast of Navasota we picked up our fourth and final target: FM 362. This back road winds gently southward towards FM 1488, the west end of which provided our final curves for the ride. From there we dropped down to US 290 and stopped at Waller County Line BBQ for lunch. The route basically ended here, as we had hit all four of our target roads. We split after lunch, some heading down FM 362 towards Katy—getting in a few more turns—while the rest took US 290 back into Houston.
Honea-Egypt Road, the Montgomery Trace, FM 3090, FM 362...life is good!
